Oh gosh, I really need to get cracking on my Yuletide fic (I have about 300 words and a title I don't hate, which is better than nothing), but gosh, all I want to do is watch 30 second Bash/Mary videos on youtube and drool over them.

So. I found this on tumblr, Torrance Coombs's thoughts on Bash/Mary:

Mary’s whole life has been about being engaged to Francis. She always knew he was the man she was going to be with so she’s told herself she loves him and all these things. They actually do seem to have a connection. But then she and Bash share a moment and she suddenly starts to wonder what the other possibilities are, maybe kinda sorta. Certainly something that previously seemed unattainable for Bash suddenly seems like ‘Oh, well, maybe'.

I have thoughts on how Bash/Mary is a real, viable ship to root for, even with marriage treaties getting in the way and I'm going to stick this under a cut, because while it's not necessarily spoilery for the show (and I imagine anyone who's had a passing interest probably did a basic wikipedia search at least), I do realize I'm getting kind of really fucking crazy-eyed over what is basically Gossip Girl at the Renaissance Fair (which is not surprising at all, come to think of it).

History, Shmistory... )

I do recognize the Francis/Mary corner of the triangle, and truthfully, I don't even hate it, but I'm anticipating a lot of back and forth over the course of this year (and hopefully longer) and I'm excited for it. Even being the B/M girl I am, I don't fault Mary for trying with Francis, even if she embarks on a 'real' relationship with Bash because gosh, there are NATIONS at stake here. Way more than your average teenage love triangle, all I'm saying...

Last night, I started thinking about all the things I wanted to say about Reign 1.05, A Chill In The Air, and I just had too many things to organize before I went to bed. I'm kind of scared of the pessimism of the Reign fandom, and I'm not even quite sure it qualifies as a fandom, but viewership. I'm seeing a lot of groanings about 'Oh gosh, not another teenaged love triangle' but I actually feel like this one is done well! And I want every gif ever of last night! All the kisses!

This journal is going to turn into a One Woman campaign for Reign, fyi.

I have ships.

*I could care less about Colin and Lola, but there was nothing else for just Greer and Leith.

So. Finally saw a Reign episode on time last night (finally, like it's been five days), and once again pretty upset that Yuletide nominations are so early, you barely have a chance to digest new shows.

Anyway! Actual timely tv post.

Reign 1x04: Hearts and Minds )

All in all, still IN.

So, it's been a real ho-hum year for me, with two of my all time favorites ending (Gossip Girl and Spartacus) and not really catching on to any new craze. I did love New Girl and Grey's still has its moments with me, here and there, but there was nothing I was really getting *too* excited over, and I was really kind of starting to think I lost all my fannish mojo, but my darlings all that has changed.

REIGN.

Oh my gosh, I love this show. I watched all three episodes last night and I can hardly wait for Thursday. For those of you who haven't caught on to it yet, it's the early years of Mary, Queen of Scots (she's supposed to be about fourteen now) and her time at the French court, engaged to Francis II. I'm in love with Adelaide Kane, who plays young Mary to perfection. She's this girl with all of the expectations of an entire country on her, in a court where someone wants her killed and doesn't know her allies from her friends. Plus there's her history with Francis (they were childhood sweethearts, engaged since they were six), her interactions with Francis's illegitimate brother Sebastian ('Bash'), an intriguing, young Nostradamus, and there's this Phantom-of-the-Opera-esque girl running around the palace with a bag over her head. It's over the toply camp and it's *awesome*.

But what this show is REALLY all about is Mary's interactions with her ladies-in-waiting, her bff companions, and they all have such distinct personalities, three episodes in. I think I might love Kenna and Greer best, if only because Aylee hasn't had much to do and Lola seems kind of weepy and weak...I'd put my money on her if any of them will turn on Mary, but it's early to say. But Kenna and Greer especially seem really smart and Kenna especially is enjoying her time at court (and flirting with the King of France, and understanding she'd be one of many mistresses so not jumping into anything too soon). And I'm already 100% shipping Greer and Leith. That kind of story always suckers me in.

EVERYONE PLEASE WATCH THIS SHOW! IT FEATURES AN AWESOME CIRCLE OF FEMALE FRIENDSHIP, AND THIS IS A *SKIN* SHOW! ALL OF THEM ARE GLOWING AND YOUTHFUL AND AS AN AESTHETICIAN I AM BASICALLY DROOLING OVER ALL OF THEIR COMPLEXIONS!
